INTRODUCTION
The Little Zipper grout pump is a simple, low cost tool that will
reliably place urethane grouts at high pressures, if necessary,
in a wide range of structural water control and crack sealing applications.
The standard configuration of the Little Zipper covers the basic
job requirements, to which a variety of options may be added for
specific applications. The unit is available in both Stainless Steel
and carbon steel.
The
primary virtues of the Little Zipper are portability, simplicity,
dependability, high pressure capability, small size, low cost, and
ease of maintenance. The Little Zipper could just as well have been
named the Little Easy because the word easy always comes up whenever
this pump is discussed. Easy to use; Easy to carry; Easy to clean;
Easy to store; Easy to fix; Tough to beat.
CONFIGURATION
The Little Zipper can be configured for different tasks in several
ways using its twin-pin positioning and its multi-cylinder mounting
capabilities. Twin-pin positioning means that the fulcrum point
for the cylinder(s) can be changed as required by the demands of
the application. Multi-cylinder mounting means that the pump can
be operated with one, two or three cylinders in parallel. This combination
of twin-pin positioning and multi-cylinder mounting creates the
greatest versatility available in a chemical grout hand pump anywhere.
The
standard Little Zipper is a single zinc plated pump cylinder with
zinc plated or brass fittings, an intake drop-tube, a pressure bypass
line, and a 15' x 1/4" discharge hose with ball valve and zerc
coupler, all mounted on a side-fold frame. The drop tube extends
straight down from the pump into the grout can sitting below it
and features a foot valve to hold prime. A high pressure bypass
relieves trapped pressure back to the supply in the event of a discharge
line blockage.
Optional
equipment choices include:
1. Grout hopper intake kit for flooded suction operation
2. Second cylinder kit for twin stream operation at a 1:1 ratio
3. Third cylinder kit for twin stream operation at a 2:1 ratio
4. Pressure gauge kit with 3,000 psi liquid filled gauge
5. Stainless Steel cylinder kit
The
crossbar on the pump stand and the pump handle each have two sets
of holes. When the pump cylinder base and the piston top mount are
pinned in the forward set of holes, the stroke length is decreased
but the operators leverage is increased. This means that total
output goes down a little while pressure goes up when operated here
as opposed to the mount position farther back.
SINGLE
STREAM OPERATION
The basic configuration of the Little Zipper is a single piston.
This is usually used for placement of resins which react directly
with water when the applicator is using the water in place as the
reaction water for the resin.
TWIN
STREAMS AT 1:1
Twin stream grout placement involves mounting two pumps side by
side so that each power stroke moves both wet ends together. In
this mode, the applicator can move resin on one piston and water
in the other so that a 1:1 ratio is dependably maintained. Twin
streaming helps assure the applicator that the right amount of reaction
water is present and available to the resin placed.
TWIN
STREAMS AT 2:1
Some grout systems require two parts of one component to mix with
one part of a second. The Little Zipper achieves this mode by accepting
a third piston mounted in parallel with the first two, for a total
of three wet ends under a common handle. Two of these are then linked
by a manifold at their outlet sides to create the 2:1 ratio.
